The year is 2150 and The Order has replaced the government after World War III. Click here for a flashback.
Today we are going to learn about one of the biggest faults of the United States Government prior to the creation of The Order, The Federal Trade Commission. The Federal Trade Commision used to be a federal agency that’s goal was to enforce privacy laws to supposedly protect American Citizens. As the internet began to take off and integrate with each individual’s daily lives, the U.S. government placed a lot of trust on its citizens and empowered the FTC to allow citizens to maintain data privacy so that businesses, other people, and even the government couldn’t see their personal data. I am sure my student’s reading this know how dangerous this can be! The Children’s Online Protection Privacy Act, The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, The Fair Credit Privacy Act, The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, and The Electronic Communications Privacy Act are just some of the attempts of the FTC to protect consumer data from being taken advantage of by unauthorized institutions and third parties. However we have learned that humans can’t be trusted. From 9/11, to the Capitol Riots in 2021, to black market activity reaching an all time high in 2034, to the millions of deaths during World War III caused by fake news, our society was destroying itself.
The cost of individual privacy is the alienation of society. With The Order protecting us, we don’t have to worry about being in danger! In order to keep this peaceful, functional society in place we must follow one essential rule, and arguably the most important lesson you will ever learn….
DON’T QUESTION THE ORDER!
